ILGENFRITZ Family History

 

This is my family history on my Mother's side. Thus the name Ilgenfritz. The history shows that Johann Georg Ilgenfritz Sr. came to the States in 1737 from Germany and landed in York Township, Pa. They lived in Pa. until about 1840 when they moved to Tipp. County, In. The history goes back to the Old Man Ilgenfritz in 1550.

Fourteenth GENERATION

9972   Jerry Louis Orange and married Vicki Jo Oliver on May 17, 1975.

 Thirteenth GENERATION

Warren Turner Orange (born on October 31, 1921) married Frances (Fritzie) Margaret Ilgenfritz about 1950. She was born on March 3, 1920. Their son was Jerry Louis Orange.

 

2922   Frances (Fritzie) Margaret Ilgenfritz was the daughter of Alfred Crout Ilgenfritz and Pearl Ellen Miller.

 

Twelveth GENERATION

 

 

2052.  Alfred Crout ILGENFRITZ was born on 24 Aug 1888 in Sheffield Twp. Tippecanoe Co. IN.  He died on 30 Mar 1963 in Logansport, Cass Co. IN.  He was buried in Apr 1963 in Salem Chd Sheffield Twp.Tippecanoe Co.IN.  He was an auto mechanic.

 

He was married to Pearl Ellen MILLER on 12 Aug 1908 in Tippecanoe Co. IN.  Pearl Ellen MILLER was born on 1 Jun 1888 in Indiana.  She was buried in May 1951 in Salem Chd Sheffield Twp.Tippecanoe Co.IN.  She died on 18 May 1951 in Hammond, Lake Co. IN.  Alfred C. ILGENFRITZ and Pearl Ellen MILLER had the following children:

 

    2920                i.   Clarence A. ILGENFRITZ was born on 6 Nov 1908 in Tippecanoe Co. IN.  He died on 18 Mar 1947 in Lafayette, Wea Twp. Tippecanoe Co. IN.  He was buried on 20 Mar 1947 in Rest Haven Cem.Fairfield T.Lafayette Co. He was suspected of having cancer which caused his death.  He also had pneumonia.  He married Anna Whitus on May 11, 1929.  This came from an Ilgenfritz book located in Lafayette Indiana Historical Society.

    9997       Nancy was born on January 10, 1942 in Lafayette, Indiana.  Her parents names were Walter Russel Neal and Catherine Mary Markwith on March 10, 1936 in Lafayette, In.

2922 Frances (Fritzie) Margaret ILGENFRITZ married Warren Turner Orange about 1950 and probably somewhere in Indiana ( the date and location are unknown).  They had one child.

2922 Frances (Fritzie) Margaret ILGENFRITZ married a total of four times. Madison was the first, the second is unknown, the third was Orange and Jerry Pellum was the fourth.

He was married to Ida Ann LOCKE (daughter of Stephen LOCK  and Margaret WALKER) on 31 Dec 1883 in by Frances S. Lentz.1553  Ida Ann LOCKE was born about 1866 in Stockville, IN.  She was buried in Sep 1945 in Salem Chd Sheffield Twp.Tippecanoe Co.IN.  She died on 9 Sep 1945 in Lafayette, Wea Twp. Tippecanoe Co. York Co. PA.329  He was a farmer, distiller.  Died intestate, see Orphan Court bk. O 59 York Co. PA. Probated 4/Aug/1823

Was a Soldier (pvt.) in Rev. War in Capt. John Ehrmans Militia. He fought in

the battle of Long Island and at Brandy Wine, carried a bullet in leg for year

and was a prisoner. He received bounty land in Mahoning Co. Ohio.

99.  Johann Georg ILGENFRITZ was born on 25 May 1728 in Wornitz, Ansbach, Middle Franconia, Ger..270  He died on 11 Oct 1810 near Quickels Ch. Dover Twp. York Co. PA.271  He was buried on 14 Oct 1810 in Prospect Hill Cem.York, PA (Moravian Sec).  He was a farmer, miller, constable.  He was christened in Lutheran.  Owned 300 acre farm in Dover Twp.York, York Co, PA from which he retired. Came to America 1737 with parents on Charming Nancy. Naturalized, Supreme Ct, of PA in Philadelphia, PA. On 21/Mar/1761 he took Sacrement. Naturalized 11/Oct/1761 along with

Feisser, Frantz Berot, John Fishell and Jacob Lanius by Sacrament since they were Moravians. He joined Lutheran Church in Dover,York Co. PA 11/Jun/17572

 

He was named Constable for Dover Twp. York Co, PA in 1753; Road supervisor in 1756 & 1758. He was taxed in the same Twp. in 1762 (7 Shillings, 6 pense and seems to have been living in York, York Co, PA. in 1763. Hanover, York Co, PA

He died intestate.

 

At the death of his father, in 1749, George inherited 100 acres & bought 200 more.  He added to it until he owned much land, both in Manchester and Dover Twps - he also owned a mill, in Dover Twp. where he lived.  At his death, in 1810, he left a l

estate (which the heirs fought over).

 

George probably saw some service in the Rev. War; on one muster roll is the name of George Fritz; and on another the name of George Ilgenfritz (Pa. Archives). George left no Will, but on Dec. 19, 1810, his estate came up in Orphan's  Court (Intesta

Book K - Pgs. 176, 177 - York Co. Court records.

 

There was a 'Feud' going on among the Ilgenfritz families; it is thought to have been between the children of the 1st and 2nd wives of George (the 2nd), and they never associated in any way...the young people were forbidden to meet.  Eleanora (Elle

went to Baltimore, to visit her uncle, John Ilgenfritz, in 1836, and while there met her distant cousin, Jacob Ilgenfritz,

Jr., who was also visiting...and the young folks fell in love.  Her folks opposed the marriage, and his mother was furious (his father was not living - having died in 1828)...she forbid Jacob from seeing Ellen, and threatened what she would do if h

did.  So...they eloped to Philadelphia and were married. Jacob began hunting work, he was a printer, but his mother hounded him, and got him discharged from every position he got.  He tried for work of any kind, but it was winter, and there was

none...a baby was expected...and still he could find no work...he took cold...it developed into pneumonia, and he died (from lack of medical attention, and malnutrition).  Ellen's folks, hearing of her plight, went to Phildelphia, and took her back

York with them...where her baby was born about three months later. Ann (Lau) Ilgenfritz refused to acknowledge the baby, and never helped Ellen and the baby in any way...it is thought that she had much property...the Laus were wealthy farmers of

Manchester Twp., York Co., and she had inherited much wealth.

 

Eleanora (Ellen) (Ilgenfritz) Gartman, lived in York, Pa., until 1905, when she went out to the state of Washington - with her daughter, Fanny Spangenberg - to live with her granddaughter, Eleanora (Nelly) and Frank Dice, on a large farm, near Pres

Washington (Walla Walla Co.)...where she died, Jan. 19, 1911, at the ripe old age of 97 (lacking ten days) - she is buried in the Dice family plot, City Cemetery, Waitsburg, Wash....which is about five miles from the Dice home.

 

Ellen was about 5 ft. 3 in. tall, weight ca. 120 lbs., light brown, wavy hair, medium blue eyes, fair skin. She had an active mind, with a keen sense of humor...a good memory, and loved to tell stories of 'the good old days'...she had a sunny

disposition, a pleasing personality...was a noted cook, seamstress and housekeeper.

 

George's Will probated 19/Dec/1810, Orphans Ct. York Co. PA, intestate.   He had become a member of the Lutheran Church when he married Anna Maria Dorr Schertel. Joined the Moravian Church 11/Jun/1757 and left it in 1770

 

He was married to Margaretha MOHR (daughter of Peter MOHR  and Catharine MATTHIAS ) in Jun 1748 in Dover Twp. York Co. PA.272  Margaretha MOHR was christened about 1731 in Reformed Church.1  She was born on 15 Sep 1731 in Becherbach, Pfalz, Palatinate  Germany.273  She died on 6 Apr 1769 near Quickels Ch. Dover Twp. York Co. PA.274  She was buried on 8 Apr 1769 in Prospect Hill Cem.York, PA (Moravian Sec).1  She was a Housewife.  Was a Communion Sister XLIII. Died soon after stillborn delivery. Mother and

daughter were buried together. Came to PA with parents, 1739 on "Samuel", from

Rotterdam via Deal England to Philadelphia. Died age 38 yr.5 mo.  Johann Georg ILGENFRITZ and Margaretha MOHR had the following children:

His name appears as George, Hans George, Johan George Iliafritz Elefritz, Ilgafritz. depending on who wrote the name. The name is likely compounded of Elgan(t)Fritz and means Dandy, elegant or elite Frederick. Other spellings; ELIEFRETS, ELIEFREKS,

From, Ilgenfritz Family Newsletter, Vol. 1 # 1 pg. 8: He was born in the town of Wornitz, which is located about 37 miles southwest of the city of Nurnberg and 15 miles southwest of the town of Ansbach. This section of what was formerly West German

now called Bavaria. In the 1700's it was called Middle Franconia.

 

During this time period in Germany there was a lot of religious persecution, wars and famine. One can only surmise that Andreas sent his son to America for a better life. Many German immigrants who came to America travelled along the

Rhine river which runs into the Waal river which goes to the city of Rotterdam The "Nancy" headed to Plymouth from there and then landed in Philadelphia, PA The ship carried 105 men, 25 boys and 107 women and girls. He settled in what was Dover Twp

and is now Conewago Twp. Dover Twp was formed in 1749. The Twp. is drained by the Great Conewago Creek in the north, and the Little Conewago Creek in the southeast. The earliest settlers in this area came in 1736.

He was married to Maria APOLLONIA before 1728 in Germany.249  Maria APOLLONIA was born about 1705 in Niopentz, Germany.250  She died about 1784 in Dover Twp. York Co. PA.249  She was buried about 1784 in Dover Twp. York Co. PA.  Her name appears on Deeds Baptisms etc. as Mary and/or Appolonia.
